This is really random, but after browsing your work I think one of my favorite aspects of it is the way you render mouths; they're extremely realistic in both form and connection to the rest of the face. I love the way in this one for example you've created such realistic cheeks around the lips. They're amazing!!

Thank you :) I find the mouth to be the most exciting part of the face to sculpt, to be honest.

It's interesting because so many artists talk about how emotive eyes are, but I love how you involve the whole face so thoroughly. My hat is off to you, my friend.

By the way, do you teach what you do?

Thank you :) I do teach, yes, at my day job, but I'm more of a director than a teacher nowadays.

Wow, I'd love to teach (or direct, as you put it XD), but I hear the competition is tough. Is it very hard to make a living somehow in the art world? I'm totally on the fence about my major (I'm a college student myself) and I can't decide if I should stay in architecture or follow my dreams and be an art major instead.

Being a full time artist is incredibly tough. Most artists tend to have "day jobs" :) But, artists tend to do it for the love of the craft, a fully selfish proposal, and if others enjoy the art created, that's the icing on top.

Yes, I imagine most artists would produce art no matter what. Personally I'd love a day job that involved art, especially teaching. I'm just not sure how many "day jobs" are available XD

lee I love your work! I am also a sculptor but do mostly realism although I have done some fantasy and wish I could do more. awesome!!! are you using terra-cotta and firing these or are they just the chant clay and will be cast in bronze? I have done bronze in the past and even worked at a foundry when I was younger.. now Id rally love to get a kiln and cast in earthenware and terracotta. that is my future plan.. so I can really take my work to new areas..

Hello :) No, these are just the raw oil clay (mostly Chavant brand). I would then mold them in a silicone case mold and then cast in a faux metallic or marble effect. No firing, kiln or foundry processes involved, all done by my lonesome :)
